Hull manager outlines challenge against Chelsea’s attack
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic discussed his team’s strategy to counter Chelsea’s formidable attack ahead of their Premier League match on Saturday, reports BritPanorama.
Both Hull and Chelsea have made strong starts to the season, with Hull not having conceded a goal in their first three matches and currently possessing seven points from nine. The Tigers face a Chelsea side that had an impressive showing, scoring 16 goals in five fixtures.
When asked about his defenders’ approach to dealing with Chelsea, Jakirovic quipped, “Kick them.” He further explained that man-marking alone would not suffice, as Chelsea players have the capability to navigate through multiple defenders.
“It’s about being together – compact team, team effort and defending as a team, and we will see,” he added. Despite respecting Chelsea’s quality, he acknowledged that it would be a “great challenge” for his squad.
Hull’s excellent start has included victories over Manchester United and Coventry City. Jakirovic believes that every match brings new challenges and is optimistic about further improvement. “It’s a great experience for us… we can improve a lot,” he noted.
However, Hull faced a setback mid-week, exiting the League Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland. In contrast, Chelsea recently demonstrated their attacking prowess with a thrilling 9-0 victory against Leeds United, highlighting the challenge that lies ahead for Hull.
