ChatGPT experiences outage as thousands report access issues

ChatGPT experiences widespread outage among users

Thousands of users are currently reporting that the AI chatbot ChatGPT is down, reports BritPanorama.

As of 4pm BST on 3 September, DownDetector has registered over 11,600 reports indicating that the OpenAI tool’s website is not functioning.

Users attempting to access the site are greeted with a 404 error, indicating that the web server was reached but the specific page or file could not be found.

OpenAI has yet to issue a statement regarding the outage, and the duration of the disruption remains uncertain.

Reports also suggest that related tools, such as Claude and X’s GrokAI, may be experiencing issues, although this has not been officially confirmed.

“ChatGPT is down. All the load went to Claude, so Claude is not working either. I guess I’m taking a break,” one user noted on X.

OpenAI has directed users to check the status page for further updates. Currently, it states: “We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovery,” yet they are still facing “degraded performance.”

The situation reflects ongoing challenges within the realm of AI services, highlighting the dependency many users have on these platforms. As outages occur, questions around reliability and user experience continue to arise.
