Arsenal to achieve record transfer income without selling current players

Arsenal enjoys lucrative transfer deadline day

Arsenal appears poised to reap significant financial rewards on transfer deadline day without selling any active players, reports BritPanorama.

The Premier League champions are expected to earn around £9 million from sell-on clauses linked to former academy players Folarin Balogun and Brooke Norton-Cuffy. Balogun is nearing a £38.5 million transfer from Monaco to Everton, while Norton-Cuffy’s move from Genoa to newly-promoted Hull City is expected to fetch around £12 million.

Both players left Arsenal in recent years, but contractual agreements ensure a lucrative return for the club. Balogun’s deal includes a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause, yielding approximately £6.7 million from the Everton transfer. Combined with the £34 million Arsenal received from Monaco in 2023, the total return for the club exceeds £41 million, surpassing the previous record of £35 million from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s transfer to Liverpool nine years ago.

The record, however, may be brief. Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli is on the verge of a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, potentially bringing in £55-60 million. This fee would establish a new benchmark for Arsenal’s most profitable player sale.

Norton-Cuffy’s transfer to Hull City adds further financial benefit, with a 20 per cent sell-on clause resulting in an additional £2.3 million for Arsenal. His original transfer to Genoa was valued at £1.7 million, making this current transaction another smart financial move for the club.

Manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the necessity of financial prudence amid squad development. After a recent win over Aston Villa, he stated: “That’s what we are trying to get as a club but the balance has to be right. There are areas that we have to improve to hit those numbers.” He emphasized careful selection in player sales: “We have to sell what we want to sell as well, not just to sell.”

Arsenal’s summer has seen significant turnover, with players like Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Fabio Vieira, and Reiss Nelson departing. Additionally, Gabriel Jesus is set to transfer to Barcelona for approximately £8.5 million.

Despite these financial moves, the Gunners have faced setbacks, such as their unsuccessful pursuit of Lyon winger Malick Fofana amid Sunderland’s strong interest.

In the end, the evolving dynamics of player trading underscore how football is not just about the game on the pitch, but also the intricate dance of finance that shapes a club’s future.
