Count Binface leads over Nigel Farage in Clacton poll
Count Binface appears poised to outperform Nigel Farage in a head-to-head contest in Clacton, according to a recent poll conducted ahead of the upcoming by-election. The survey conducted by More in Common indicates that 37 per cent of respondents would prefer Count Binface, compared to 32 per cent supporting the leader of Reform UK, reports BritPanorama.
Support for Count Binface is strongest among Green Party supporters, with 62 per cent backing his candidacy. This is followed by 56 per cent of Liberal Democrat voters and 54 per cent of Labour voters expressing a preference for him over Farage. Additionally, 8 per cent of individuals who supported Reform UK in the 2024 general election also indicated a desire for Count Binface to win.
Interestingly, across all surveyed parties, 32 per cent of voters expressed uncertainty regarding their preferred candidate for the seat. Polling has heightened ahead of the by-election, slated for Thursday, which emerged following Farage’s announcement to vacate his post as the constituency’s MP amid ongoing scrutiny over his financial dealings.
In his statement, Farage argued that his decision to step down stemmed from what he termed an “establishment stitch-up,” a response to persistent questions regarding his financial relationships, including a £5 million donation from crypto entrepreneur Christopher Harborne and gifts from convicted criminal George Cottrell.
The Conservative Party, Liberal Democrats, Greens, and Labour have all opted not to contest the by-election, with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch labeling it “fake” and Sir Keir Starmer describing it as “a desperate political stunt.” Count Binface, a satirical persona known for outlandish campaign promises, including the abolition of VAR in football and conscription of loud music players on public transport, has emerged as a significant candidate in a race lacking mainstream party involvement.
With 34 candidates officially entered into the contest, this marks a record number for any parliamentary by-election in the UK. Some independent candidates, including actor-politician Laurence Fox, are speculated to capture 2 per cent of the vote based on recent polling by Survation for Mandate Research.
Additionally, data collected by Survation reveals that, in a hypothetical head-to-head scenario, Farage would secure 73 per cent of the votes, while Count Binface would garner an estimated 20 per cent. An Ipsos poll reflected that a third (33 per cent) of the general public would prefer Count Binface in a direct contest, leaving Farage at 21 per cent for support.
Despite initial momentum for Reform UK following Labour’s victory in the 2024 elections, polling suggests a current decline in support amid Labour’s resurgence, now leading with 24 points, marginally ahead of Reform UK’s 22 per cent. This decline represents Reform’s lowest point since March 2025, indicating possible broader shifts in voter sentiment.
