“I can see Andros there, I’m on to Andros, and I’ve just crashed him,” Ranger said, illustrating the moment with a gesture. He noted that Walker’s intervention was crucial as emotions ran high, stating that he was overwhelmed with anger during the incident.
The conflict reportedly stemmed from an earlier exchange in their shared room, where Ranger had suggested Townsend take a break in preparation for a game. Townsend responded critically, leading to a heated argument that carried over into the following day.
Ranger also revealed that within the squad’s shared dining space, Townsend had spat into Ranger’s pasta, an act which left their teammates in disbelief. “I’m looking around at players and being like – are you witnessing this as well? This is crazy antics right now,” Ranger narrated, emphasizing the absurdity of the incident.
Following the physical confrontation, which resulted in Townsend retreating to his room, the two eventually reconciled. Townsend later offered an apology, attributing his outburst to frustrations over not being selected to play. He gained prominence as a promising striker for Newcastle and earned six caps for the England Under-19 team but never broke into the senior squad.
