George Russell announces engagement to Carmen Montero Mundt
George Russell has announced his engagement to long-term girlfriend Carmen Montero Mundt after proposing during a romantic beachside dinner, reports BritPanorama.
The Mercedes Formula One driver shared the news on social media, posting a selection of photographs from the intimate occasion, which marks a significant milestone in their relationship.
In his announcement, Russell kept it straightforward, including only a ring and white heart emoji as a caption. Images conveyed a celebration by the sea, with a candlelit dinner serving as the backdrop for the proposal.
The engagement follows six years of dating, with the couple first coming together in early 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend. Montero Mundt has become a well-known figure within the Formula One paddock, frequently attending Grand Prix weekends to support Russell.
Russell has expressed admiration for Montero Mundt’s influence on his life, describing her as a source of balance amid the pressures of high-level racing. In June, he mentioned in an interview how she offers essential separation from his professional demands.
“Carmen brings me stability when it comes to racing and also a way to disconnect,” Russell stated. He indicated firm intentions for their future, saying, “Without doubt she’s my future. So [I hope we’ll be married] in due course. It won’t be next week, but it won’t be longer than five years.”
Following the engagement announcement, congratulations poured in from fellow Formula One stars and teams, highlighting the couple’s widespread popularity and support within the sport. Notable reactions included messages from Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli and Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, among others.
Montero Mundt, originally from Spain, moved to the UK at 18 and pursued a degree in business management and finance at the University of Westminster. She has since ventured into the beauty industry, launching her own skincare brand.
As Russell enjoys the summer break during the first part of the 2026 Formula One season, the couple can celebrate their engagement and six years together away from the rigours of the paddock.
Once the season resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23, Russell will return to the track, but this personal milestone offers a well-timed moment of joy amidst a busy calendar. In motorsport, as in life, sometimes it’s the personal victories that provide the sweetest adrenaline rush.
