UEFA maintains boycott stance against FIFA
UEFA has reaffirmed its commitment to boycott FIFA competitions following a statement from President Gianni Infantino, who acknowledged “errors” related to the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), reports BritPanorama.
The European governing body previously announced that it would withdraw from FIFA tournaments if the controversial sell-off plan was implemented. Despite FIFA’s retraction of the proposals, UEFA insists its position remains unchanged because “conditions have not been met.”
“UEFA’s associations were very clear about the conditions attached to non-participation in FIFA competitions,” a UEFA spokesman stated. The key conditions included the withdrawal of the proposals and assurances that similar attempts would not be repeated.
UEFA explicitly expressed a loss of confidence in Infantino’s presidency, further complicating FIFA’s standing. UEFA’s statement emphasized that recent endorsements of Infantino by certain FIFA employees change nothing in terms of their stance.
