Matthias Jaissle appointed as Newcastle’s new head coach
Newcastle United has appointed Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Eddie Howe, reports BritPanorama.
The German coach has signed a four-year contract, with Newcastle paying £9.5 million in compensation to Al Ahli, where Jaissle had considerable success.
Jaissle previously won back-to-back Asian Champions Leagues with Al Ahli and is set to lead Newcastle in his first match against Valencia on Saturday.
In his statement, Jaissle expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “When Newcastle United comes your way, you take notice.” He highlighted the club’s ambition and vision for the future as key factors in his decision to join.
Jaissle’s coaching journey includes a tenure at RB Salzburg, where he secured consecutive Austrian titles. Newcastle’s chief executive, David Hopkinson, praised Jaissle as “one of the most exciting and highly regarded young coaches in football,” emphasising his qualities as an ideal fit for the club.
The sporting director, Ross Wilson, also spoke about Jaissle’s alignment with the club’s vision, noting his track record of developing players and fostering a cohesive team environment. Wilson remarked, “His teams play high-energy football, and we could feel his passion during all our discussions.” Jaissle replaces Howe, who guided the team to a League Cup victory and European competition.
Reflecting on his coaching philosophy, Jaissle stated, “My teams are built on togetherness, hard work, intensity, and a passion to improve every single day.” He conveyed a commitment to energising the squad and contributing to Newcastle’s ambitions, encapsulating his eagerness to begin this new chapter.
As Newcastle embarks on this fresh journey with Jaissle at the helm, fans will be keen to see how his vision translates on the pitch, especially in a fixture that promises to be a testing first encounter. After all, in the fast-paced realm of football, the new head coach will soon be tasked with transforming aspirations into tangible results.
