Alan Brazil has confirmed he will make his long-awaited return to talkSPORT this week after spending months recovering from life-saving surgery that saw his heart stop during a liver transplant, reports BritPanorama.
The 67-year-old broadcaster has been off the airwaves since undergoing the significant operation earlier this year, leaving listeners eager for updates on his comeback.
Brazil, a former forward for Ipswich Town, Tottenham, and Manchester United, will resume hosting duties from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, marking an emotional return following a lengthy rehabilitation process.
In a video shared with supporters while relaxing in Suffolk alongside his dog Hugo, Brazil expressed enthusiasm about his return. “I’m looking forward to Wednesday. Wednesday morning at 6 a.m., talkSPORT, Brazil’s back,” he stated.
Reflecting on his time away, Brazil noted the benefits of the enforced break, despite some restrictions on his activities. “I’ve had a great break here in Suffolk. The weather’s been sensational, although I’m not really allowed to be in the sun too much,” he commented.
Brazil acknowledged how much he missed broadcasting. “I’ve missed all of this, the last three months. I really have.” He expressed optimism about his recovery, saying, “I feel my everything is beginning to improve week after week.”
Although he is poised to return, Brazil mentioned he still has a way to go in his recovery, with scheduled medical treatment planned shortly after his comeback. Doctors estimate that his rehabilitation will take around six months in total.
Looking forward, Brazil is keen to follow the new football season closely, having secured season tickets at Portman Road to watch Ipswich matches. He has also expressed his views on various football issues, particularly in light of the recent World Cup.
On FIFA’s management of the tournament, he reflected critically, saying, “The World Cup, not great for me, I didn’t like all the commercialisation and of course we’re hearing all about it now aren’t we?” He also identified Arsenal as one of the top contenders for the upcoming Premier League season but cautioned that the title race is far from predictable.
