England secure World Cup knockout stage after victory over Panama

England have advanced to the World Cup knockout stages as group winners after defeating Panama 2-0 in their final Group D match, reports BritPanorama.

Jude Bellingham was once again instrumental, scoring a remarkable second-half opener before providing Harry Kane with the cross for his record-breaking goal. This victory ensured England finished at the top of their group.

Despite the comfortable progression, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane expressed concerns regarding head coach Thomas Tuchel’s frequent team changes, suggesting it indicates uncertainty about his strongest line-up ahead of the knockout match against DR Congo.

Keane noted that England made seven alterations across their opening three matches, including five changes for the encounter with Panama. “The top players eventually turned up in the second half,” he commented. “The opposition were really poor, so we could be critical of England if they didn’t get the job done – but they did,” he said on ITV.

Post-match, Keane remarked, “As much as there were pluses from some of the star lads today, the manager has done a lot of chopping and changing. I don’t think he has a clue what his best XI is. That’s not good.”

In contrast, former England defender Gary Neville highlighted Bellingham as the standout performer for the team, asserting that the Real Madrid midfielder is operating at a level unmatched by his teammates. “He’s the one player who looks like he’s in form, who’s fresh, sharp, lively,” Neville stated.

Neville praised Bellingham’s technical ability and his second goal, while also urging the rest of the squad to elevate their performance if they desire to contend for the title. “The rest of them are going to have to get to his level and form quite quickly,” he added.

While England displayed improvements, Neville acknowledged that Tuchel still has considerable work ahead of the knockout rounds. “I don’t think Thomas Tuchel will be walking off the pitch thinking it’s perfect right now,” he warned. England will face DR Congo in their next match, and they’ll undoubtedly need to be sharper to progress further.

As the tournament progresses, the path ahead for England grows increasingly challenging, reflecting both the tension of knockout football and the growing expectations for a team that has yet to find its ideal rhythm.
