Emma Raducanu misses training at Wimbledon amid injury concerns

Emma Raducanu has missed training at Wimbledon as fears grow of an injury for the British No1, reports BritPanorama.

The 23-year-old has not played a match since her run to the final of the Queen’s Club Championship a week and a half ago, opting to sit out both the Nottingham and Eastbourne events.

Raducanu has been practising at the All England Club, but was seen wearing a protective boot yesterday evening. Scheduled to train today, she did not show up as her representatives confirmed she is managing a niggle.

This season has been characterised by interruptions for Raducanu, who missed two and a half months due to a post-viral illness that began in February. After a limited return on clay, her impressive performance at Queen’s Club marked just her second final appearance since winning the US Open.

In that final, Raducanu faced Donna Vekic, ultimately losing 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) in a closely contested match. Her success in reaching the final — winning two matches in one day — bolstered her preparations for Wimbledon.

Currently ranked world No. 31, Raducanu’s position allows her to enter Wimbledon as a seeded player, potentially giving her a more advantageous draw. This ranking change also affects Vekic, now ranked No. 32, both players not being viewed as unseeded dark horses by the rest of the field.

Raducanu remained gracious in defeat, acknowledging the support she received throughout her run at Queen’s. “It’s been an incredible week for me, making the final here, playing in my home city, in my home tournament,” she remarked. Her comments highlighted her respect for Vekic’s performance as well.

With her recovery in focus, Raducanu’s participation in Wimbledon remains uncertain, underscoring the delicate balance athletes navigate as they manage injuries while striving for success. As the tournament approaches, all eyes will be on whether she can overcome this latest setback and compete on the grand stage once more.

The unpredictability of sports and injuries serves as a stark reminder of the challenges athletes face; how quickly fortunes can change on the court, leaving even the brightest stars under a cloud of uncertainty.
