Emma Raducanu withdraws from Nottingham Open after Queen’s Club defeat
Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Nottingham Open shortly after her loss in the Queen’s Club Championship final, reports BritPanorama.
The British No 1, aged 23, showcased commendable performance throughout the tournament but fell to Croatia’s Donna Vekic with a scoreline of 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).
Marking her first final since winning the US Open in 2021, Raducanu took to the court with strapping on her left leg. Despite her efforts, she has chosen to sit out this week in Nottingham to ensure she is fully fit for Wimbledon.
Reaching the final in Queen’s has resulted in a boost for Raducanu’s rankings, elevating her to world No 31. This position secures her a seeded spot at Wimbledon, providing a potentially advantageous draw going into the tournament. Vekic also climbs in the rankings to world No 32, impacting the dynamics for other competitors.
In her post-match reflections, Raducanu acknowledged the support she received during her run to the final. “It’s been an incredible week for me, making the final here, playing in my home city, in my home tournament,” she remarked. “Donna played extremely well from the start to the finish.”
Vekic reciprocated Raducanu’s sentiments, extending her congratulations and best wishes for the upcoming grass season, emphasising the competitive spirit present in women’s tennis.
As Raducanu prepares for Wimbledon, her decision to focus on recovery is a reminder that even rising stars must navigate the rigours of professional sport. Balancing aspiration and well-being remains an ongoing challenge for athletes in the spotlight.
