Plans for potential England World Cup victory parade underway
The Government is said to be working on plans for a huge victory parade if England win the World Cup, reports BritPanorama.
Civil servants are believed to be drafting blueprints for a £500,000 programme of celebrations across the nation if the Three Lions are crowned champions once again in the States.
Plans are underway for one of the country’s largest-ever parades through London immediately after July 19’s final, according to reports. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is leading the initiative, revealed days before the tournament even begins.
While details remain unclear regarding any potential celebrations for a Scotland win, with current odds standing at 250/1, officials have consulted the FA on managing an estimated crowd of millions should England secure an extra star above their crest. Last summer’s parade celebrating the Euros-winning Lionesses drew significant crowds, suggesting any World Cup event would likely attract far larger numbers.
Already, the process of preparing the celebration plans has cost taxpayers tens of thousands of pounds. Arrangements include hiring a double-decker bus, a large stage area, and providing live entertainment, with total costs expected to reach around £500,000. One source indicated, “If England do win the World Cup and there isn’t a plan, both the Government and the FA would look stupid.”
In an official statement, the DCMS commented, “At this stage, speculation around possible celebrations is premature, but of course, we will celebrate success in the right way.”
Reflecting on past triumphs, last summer’s Lionesses parade drew around 65,000 spectators to central London, showcasing the nation’s enthusiasm for football celebrations. A World Cup parade, should it occur, would likely overshadow even the recent Arsenal title festivities. As anticipation builds, the prospect of uniting millions in celebration is a vivid reminder of the sport’s ability to galvanize the country, even amid challenging times.
