Ralf Schumacher marries Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne in St Tropez

Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher exchanged vows with his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne in the French Riviera town of St Tropez on Saturday afternoon, reports BritPanorama.

The couple arrived at the town hall at 5:18pm local time, dressed identically in dark blue suits paired with white shirts and pale blue ties. This wedding marks the beginning of a three-day celebration for the couple.

Schumacher, who won six Grand Prix races during his career with Williams and Jordan, tied the knot with the French businessman near their shared property, which once served as Schumacher’s holiday home with his former wife.

The wedding ceremony was captured by cameras from Sky and Wow as part of their four-part documentary series titled “Ralf & Étienne: Wir sagen Ja” (We Say Yes), with the finale featuring the nuptials set to air on 6 June.

Among the attendees was Peter Hardenacke, Sky’s Formula One expert, who expressed his congratulations to the newlyweds. “I’m happy for him, I wish him all the luck in the world. I believe he has found the right partner,” Hardenacke told Bild newspaper.

After the ceremony, the couple exited through a rear exit around 6pm before heading to a restaurant reception aboard a luxury motorboat. The couple first met in Monaco, where they exchanged numbers before beginning their relationship in 2022. Bousquet-Cassagne recalled that he was immediately smitten, stating, “I was in love at first sight.”

Bousquet-Cassagne initially had to wait for a response, as he sent multiple messages to Schumacher without receiving a reply until months later. Schumacher publicly announced his relationship and sexuality in July 2024. His son David, born during his marriage to Cora in 2001, took on best man duties at the wedding, which hosted approximately 110 guests.

The revelation of Schumacher’s same-sex relationship previously sparked a public dispute with his ex-wife, who burned her wedding dress and requested to heal in peace, alleging she had “wasted her best years” on him. However, news of the engagement in February prompted Cora to extend well wishes, stating, “Steven and I wish Ralf and Étienne all the best and much happiness.”

Schumacher’s brother, the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, was not expected to attend following the severe skiing accident in 2013 that left him wheelchair-bound.

This event represents not only a personal milestone for Schumacher but also a moment within the broader context of evolving societal norms. In celebrating their union, the couple reflects a growing acceptance of diverse relationships in a world increasingly recognizing the value of love in all its forms.
