Piero Hincapie reflects on viral wardrobe mishap ahead of Champions League final

Piero Hincapie shares experiences after wardrobe malfunction during Arsenal match

Piero Hincapie revealed he received messages “from a lot of women” following an embarrassing incident during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Burnley, where his shorts came down, reports BritPanorama.

The incident occurred as the 24-year-old Ecuadorian defender tangled with Burnley’s Axel Tuanzebe near the byline. In the scramble, Tuanzebe inadvertently stepped on Hincapie’s shorts, causing them to slip down and expose him to viewers across the globe.

Quickly recovering, Hincapie rolled over while hastily pulling his shorts back up before continuing with the match. In a light-hearted interview with CBS Sports Golazo ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, he reflected on the situation with a sense of humour.

He noted that his teammates have since teased him about the incident, saying, “Yeah, the thing is they (my teammates) try to be funny and end up going too far. But anyway, no, it was just a moment – a really embarrassing moment, to be honest.” Hincapie admitted he endeavored to enjoy the moment despite its awkwardness, as he recognised it would be memorable for viewers.

When questioned about the numerous messages he received post-incident, he chuckled, “Yeah, a lot of people, a lot of women.” This experience, while embarrassing, has now transitioned to a lighter note as he prepares to focus on the significant challenge ahead.

Hincapie played a crucial role in Arsenal’s quest for glory, having started in their last league match against Crystal Palace before shifting roles during the game. Across the season, he has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the north London club, who are pursuing the prestigious Champions League title for the first time in their 140-year history.

With Kai Havertz as the sole outfield member of the squad holding a Champions League winner’s medal, the pressure is on Arsenal’s players to deliver this season. As the team gears up for the final, confidence is high. A teammate remarked, “We have so much confidence. We have been fighting on the highest level for a couple of years; we have finally won the Premier League, and that has given us a big boost.”

As they look to secure their place in football history, and with Hincapie’s light-hearted spirit evident, it serves as a reminder of the thin line athletes tread between the intense pressures of competition and the quirks of human experience. It will be intriguing to see how they harness this energy on the grand stage.
