Pep Guardiola disputes future speculation following title loss

Pep Guardiola insisted he has not made up his mind on his future yet, disputing reports that he will stand down this week as Manchester City manager, reports BritPanorama.

City’s Premier League title hopes came to a decisive end on Tuesday evening with a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium, a result that crowned Arsenal as champions for the 2025/26 season.

The draw against Bournemouth extinguished any lingering possibility of Guardiola claiming a seventh league triumph with the club.

Speculation surrounding the Catalan manager’s future intensified after reports emerged just 24 hours prior to the match suggesting he would depart this summer.

Despite questions about his position being prohibited before kick-off, Guardiola faced inevitable scrutiny afterwards, addressing the uncertainty over whether he will remain at the Etihad.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Guardiola confirmed, “I can say I have one year of my contract. The first person who has to talk is the chairman. When we finish the season, we will see and we will talk.” He reaffirmed, “After we will take the decision. I have one year of my contract, I will not tell you here but I have to talk to my chairman, my players, my staff.”

He expressed contentment despite the disappointing result, stating, “I’m the happiest man on the planet in this club. It is extraordinary.”

Guardiola took the opportunity to congratulate the new champions and his former assistant manager Mikel Arteta: “On behalf of all Man City and my team, congratulations Arsenal, Mikel, his staff, backroom staff, all the players, fans for this Premier League – they deserve it!”

Arsenal’s triumph marks their first top-flight title in over two decades, ending a drought stretching back to the 2003/04 Invincibles season. When asked about the significance of this achievement for Arteta, Guardiola noted, “That’s a question for him but I’m pretty sure it will be special. They put a lot of effort and work in.”

Reflecting on the match itself, Guardiola pointed to his squad’s physical condition as a contributing factor to their failure to secure victory. “Today the fatigue was there. Bournemouth had 12 days to prepare. The impact from the fresh players was not good enough,” he explained.

Despite missing out on the title, Guardiola maintained a defiant tone regarding the next campaign, declaring, “We fought a lot and we prepare next season. Next season, we will be back. City will be back. We will be competing to the end in the competitions.”

In the unpredictable world of football, a season of highs and lows often shapes the narrative, and for Guardiola, the challenge now lies in rallying his squad for the battles ahead. His next steps will be closely watched, as fans and pundits alike ponder the future trajectory of a team hungry for redemption.
