Scottie Scheffler brushes off LIV Golf question after Cadillac Championship round

Scottie Scheffler dismissed a query about the LIV Golf series after finishing his opening round at the Cadillac Championship in Doral with a score of 71, placing him seven shots behind leader Cam Young, reports BritPanorama.

When asked by reporters if players from LIV Golf should be allowed back onto the PGA Tour, the world’s top-ranked golfer showed reluctance to engage with the subject. His terse response has ignited a debate among golf fans, with opinions divided on whether his reaction was warranted or if he should have addressed the issue like other players.

“I just got off the golf course. I don’t know what you want from me,” Scheffler said, laughing but clearly irritated. This incident marks the second time this year that the 29-year-old has been dismissive with reporters; previously, after recording a 65 at The Masters, he similarly deflected questions about achievable scores.

Scheffler’s abrupt exchanges with the media have drawn attention from fans, prompting speculation about whether his frustration is rooted in personal issues or stems from his performance. Supporters have defended him on social media, asserting that the timing of the question was inappropriate.

While some fans sympathized with Scheffler’s reaction, others expressed dissatisfaction, noting he was the only player to refuse an answer to that specific question, unlike his peers such as Jordan Spieth and Cameron Young. Comments online ranged from critiques of his growing unlikability to suggestions that his response reflected his disappointing performance rather than the nature of the question.

LIV Golf is currently facing a precarious future, as its financial stability is in question following reports that Saudi funding may be withdrawn. This uncertainty adds further complexity to the ongoing discussions within the sport regarding the relationships between traditional tours and emerging tours like LIV.
