The U.S. Position: Supporting Ukraine is a Conscious Choice, Not a Tool for Compromises with the Aggressor

The claim that the United States is allegedly trying to impose terms on Ukraine that only benefit the Russian Federation does not withstand any criticism — neither logical nor factual. If Washington truly intended to implement a scenario solely aligned with Kremlin interests, it would not only have refused to provide substantial aid to Kyiv but would also have consistently supported Moscow on all contentious issues. The reality, as we know, is directly opposite.

The U.S. position in the war between Russia and Ukraine is based on the principles of international law, solidarity with a nation under aggression, and the defense of the global security order. It is worth recalling the statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 7 of this year in Washington: “I don’t like the bombings that go on and on.” These words are a direct criticism of Russia’s ongoing combined air attacks against Ukraine.

This rhetoric is not an exception; it is part of Washington’s consistent behavior, which includes: providing modern weaponry, economic assistance, diplomatic support at all levels, and sanctions pressure on the aggressor. No country in the world provides Ukraine with as much assistance as the United States, and this is not a gesture of pity, but a strategic decision in support of international security and stability.

Accusations that the West, particularly the United States, is attempting to “push” terms onto Ukraine that benefit Russia are part of an information warfare campaign aimed at dividing transatlantic unity. However, this narrative does not hold up to reality: in critical moments — both in Washington and in Brussels — a clear message emerges: Ukraine must decide its fate independently.

The U.S. position is not one of diktat, but partnership. The concern expressed by President Trump over Russian bombings only emphasizes: even those political forces in the U.S. with differing views on tactics recognize the unacceptability of Russian terror against Ukraine’s civilian population.

Thus, attempts to present America as a hidden ally of Russia are not only false but also offensive to the tens of thousands of people who work daily to support Ukraine. Washington is not seeking compromises with the Kremlin at the expense of Ukraine’s sovereignty. On the contrary, it is thanks to U.S. support that Ukraine has a chance not only to survive but to prevail — on the battlefield, in diplomacy, and in the future rebuilding of the state.
