Bus accident in Swiss Alps leaves five dead
Five people were killed and 40 others injured after a bus carrying a Dutch tour party flipped over in a remote Alpine region of eastern Switzerland, reports BritPanorama.
Police in the canton of Grisons confirmed that the accident occurred near the village of Susch. Images from the scene show the bus lying on its side alongside the road, surrounded by police and emergency service personnel.
Casualty details revealed that three of the injured were in serious condition, while seven sustained moderately serious injuries and 30 others suffered minor injuries. Authorities noted that there were 45 adults on the bus.
The deceased, who have yet to be identified, were all adults. A spokeswoman for the General Dutch Association of Travel Companies, representing tour operator OAD, stated that a serious accident had taken place involving one of their buses, which was carrying 48 Dutch nationals.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, with local authorities likely to examine road conditions and driver actions prior to the incident. Tour operators have been advised to ensure the safety of their clients during travel in mountainous regions.
