Medical staff reportedly moved immediately to admit the former defender for an operation to insert a catheter following the concerning diagnosis. However, Spanish publication AS reported that what was expected to be a 40-minute procedure extended to nearly three hours due to unexpected complications.
Carlos remained in the operating theatre as surgeons addressed the difficulties encountered during the catheter insertion. Despite the prolonged nature of the surgery, the outcome was ultimately positive for the Brazilian icon, known for one of the most decorated careers among full-backs in football.
The operation has been deemed successful, with reports indicating that Carlos is now out of danger following the lengthy intervention.
