Reece James undergoes surgery after training injury

Chelsea captain Reece James has undergone knee surgery after suffering an injury during training, marking yet another setback in a challenging period for the England defender, reports BritPanorama.

James’s injury comes on the heels of last season’s three separate health issues, which included hip and hamstring problems that resulted in him missing 14 matches across both club and international fixtures.

His ongoing hamstring troubles had previously posed a significant risk to his availability for the World Cup, though he managed to secure a spot in the squad despite these challenges.

In the 2022/23 campaign, James faced even greater disruption from consecutive hamstring injuries, leading to a total of 25 missed games. This followed a previous surgery on the same muscle that sidelined him for 152 days during the 2023/24 season.

James has been pivotal for Chelsea when fit, capturing attention as a key player for both club and country. His recurring injuries pose questions not only for his personal aspirations but also for Chelsea’s defensive line as they navigate their season, uncertain of when they might deploy their captain again.

The relentless cycle of injuries serves as a stark reminder of the physical toll elite football exacts, where even the most talented athletes find themselves at the mercy of their own bodies.
