Red Bull confirms Isack Hadjar’s continuation as second driver
Red Bull has confirmed Isack Hadjar will remain as the team’s second driver and join Max Verstappen again for the 2027 season, reports BritPanorama.
Hadjar, 21, had a strong debut campaign with Racing Bulls in 2025, progressing to Red Bull this season. However, he missed three races due to a wrist injury sustained during the summer break. The young driver is now fit to compete and is set to return for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Saturday.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the continuation with Red Bull, Hadjar stated he is “really excited to continue” as he prepares for his first race since July.
In a recent statement, Hadjar remarked, “I came to this team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of this organisation. There are so many talented people at the factory, and you’re aware of the privilege of driving for such an incredible team alongside a four-time world champion like Max.” He emphasised his commitment to learning and improving while justifying the faith placed in him by the team.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised Hadjar for his performance, saying the team is “very excited to continue our journey with Isack.” He noted that since joining, Hadjar has shown remarkable skill both on and off the track, making the decision to extend his contract straightforward.
Mekies highlighted Hadjar’s commitment to the team, saying, “He has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula One season.” He acknowledged the significant immersion Hadjar has had in understanding the car and improving it, which speaks to the challenges of being a second driver in a team with a strong culture of success.
The second seat at Red Bull has a history of high expectations and challenges, often viewed as one of the most demanding positions in Formula 1. Previous drivers, including Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, have struggled to match Verstappen’s pace, underscoring the competitive pressure on Hadjar as he prepares to return.
