Manchester United investigates team leaks ahead of Arsenal match

Manchester United have launched an internal investigation to identify the ‘mole’ at Old Trafford who leaked their starting XI prior to last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, reports BritPanorama.

The breach occurred before the match, with United ultimately securing a win thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu in the second half. This incident has prompted significant concern among the club’s management.

According to The Sun, United officials were displeased with the leak of Michael Carrick’s tactical lineup before kick-off and are currently investigating various backroom staff ahead of a crucial fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday.

Team leaks have been an ongoing issue for Manchester United, particularly since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. The problem has been notably prevalent during the tenures of former managers Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, both of whom were dismissed in 2018 and 2021, respectively.

Even current coach Erik ten Hag, alongside Ruben Amorim, faced instances of tactics being leaked, despite their efforts to foster a more secure environment within the club.

As Carrick prepares for the match against Arsenal, he aims to build on the momentum from the City game, where United displayed a dominant performance. On that day, Mbeumo and Dorgu’s goals complemented a solid overall team display, overshadowing disallowed goals from Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Mount.

The Red Devils faced Arsenal earlier in the season but suffered a setback, losing 1-0 to a goal from Riccardo Calafiori. Ahead of the rematch, Carrick has expressed optimism, citing a strong sense of confidence among his players.

“There’s a lot of confidence, there’s a lot of good feeling within the group. But measured with that. We know what’s coming and we’ve got to be ready for that,” Carrick stated. He praised young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo for his performance against City, highlighting the importance of nurturing young talent within the squad.

“This club needs young players coming through and being the foundation, to understand what it means, not just for the players for the club and supporters,” Carrick remarked, reflecting on Mainoo’s rapid rise and ability to thrive in high-pressure situations.

In a season where consistency has been the goal, Carrick’s remarks underscore the ongoing evolution of the United squad as they navigate the challenges that come with being in the spotlight of top-flight football.

As the atmosphere hots up before the Arsenal clash, the stakes are high, reminding fans and players alike how fickle the margins can be in sport, where the line between victory and setback blurs in an instant.
