Laura Woods recovering after on-air collapse during England match
Laura Woods is recovering well after experiencing a collapse live on air during England’s women’s football match against Ghana at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, reports BritPanorama.
The incident occurred while Woods, 38, was presenting the coverage for ITV4. She suddenly fell forward mid-segment and was caught by pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante, which caused the programme to cut to an advert break. Viewers were left in shock as the broadcast abruptly paused.
Hours later, Woods addressed her followers on Instagram, seeking to alleviate the concerns among fans and colleagues. “Gosh that was a bit weird. Sorry to worry everyone, I’m OK. The wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and hydration,” she stated.
Woods expressed embarrassment over the incident and thanked her team, specifically mentioning Wright and Asante for their swift action. “I’m really embarrassed that happened on TV but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight. And to Wrighty and Neets for catching me. And sorry again,” she added. During the broadcast, Wright was briefly heard asking, “Are you OK?” before the audio was cut.
When coverage resumed, presenter Katie Shanahan informed viewers that she had stepped in at short notice, confirming, “As you have probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill but she’s in very good hands.”
Following Woods’ collapse, her fiancé, Adam Collard, reassured the public via X, saying, “Laura is all ok and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages.” TNT Sports, another network she works for, also extended its best wishes, saying, “Everyone at TNT Sports would like to send Laura Woods our very best wishes. Get well soon, Woodsy.”
Woods, known for her roles with ITV and TNT Sports, has made a significant impact in British sports broadcasting. Her collapse comes shortly after she returned to work following maternity leave after the birth of her son, Leo, in January. She resumed her presenting duties in April. Her relationship with Collard, which became public in October 2023, led to their engagement in September 2024, when he proposed during a trip to St Ives, Cornwall.
As clips of the moment circulated on social media, fans voiced their concern, with comments such as, “Hope Laura Woods is ok!” and “Upsetting to see Laura Woods faint. Glad Ian Wright caught her.”
In a world where sport and broadcasting often intertwine, Woods’ incident highlighted the pressures and unpredictability faced by on-air personalities, portraying a reality that vividly reminds audiences of the human element behind the presenting.
