Kyren Wilson acknowledges Stan Moody's challenge after World Snooker Championship comeback

Kyren Wilson mounts comeback to beat Stan Moody at World Snooker Championship

Kyren Wilson overcame a 7-3 deficit against Stan Moody to secure a remarkable 10-7 victory in their match at the World Snooker Championship on Monday, reports BritPanorama.

Despite the challenge posed by Moody, the 19-year-old who was making his Crucible debut, Wilson displayed resilience and skill, fighting back to reach the next stage of the tournament. His victory sets up a future clash with Mark Allen later in the week.

Reflecting on the match, Wilson acknowledged Moody’s impressive performance and noted his own initial hopes that Moody might falter after a strong start. “It was very difficult. Every credit to Stan,” Wilson said. “At the tender age of 19, I think he is going to have a lot to say going forward.”

Wilson highlighted key moments in the match, such as making crucial frames and recovering from challenging positions. “The clearance to then win the respotted black and needing three snookers to change going 8-6 down to 7-7 were important,” he noted. “I just dug in there, kept going back to the well, and just applying myself in the right way.”

As Wilson defends his ranking points gained from winning the championship two years ago, he faces pressure, with £500,000 set to drop from his rolling two-year total. “I don’t really look at the rankings too much,” he remarked, adding, “I’m here to win a World Championship, and if I win it, I don’t have to worry about all that.”

Conversely, Moody expressed disappointment over his missed opportunities, particularly after leading at 7-3. “I just lost too many bad frames… I’m gutted,” Moody said. “But if you lose frames like that, it hurts. I’ll go away, practice, and come back stronger.”

With the tournament progressing, the match serves as a poignant reminder of the razor-thin margins in snooker, illustrating how swiftly fortunes can shift — and how experience often proves decisive in high-stakes encounters.
