Jake Paul faces boxing suspension after Anthony Joshua knockout

Jake Paul is set to serve a compulsory two-month boxing suspension following his defeat to Anthony Joshua, who knocked him out in the sixth round of their heavyweight clash at Miami’s Kaseya Centre on Friday night, reports BritPanorama.

The Florida Athletic Commission will enforce the 60-day ban subsequent to the knockout. This suspension could potentially be extended should officials conclude that the knockout was particularly severe.

Paul, 28, entered the eight-round professional contest with a record of 12 wins and 1 loss but faced a decisive defeat against the former two-time unified heavyweight champion. Throughout the fight, he spent considerable time retreating and employing clinches to avoid Joshua’s formidable power, ultimately succumbing to fatigue.

Post-fight, Paul disclosed that Joshua had fractured his jaw during their bout. He stated: “I’ve already won in every single way in life, my family, my jaw is broken by the way, it’s definitely broke, nice little a** whooping from one of the best to ever do it.” Paul attributed his defeat partly to exhaustion from managing his opponent’s superior size, indicating a need for improved cardio in future bouts.

Despite the loss, Paul expressed determination regarding his championship aspirations: “Oh, for sure, we’ll heal the broken jaw, go back, fight people my own weight and go for the cruiserweight world title. I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years.”

Meanwhile, Joshua acknowledged that while he secured victory, his performance did not meet his own expectations. He said: “It wasn’t the best performance. The goal was to get Jake Paul out and hurt him.” The British heavyweight also praised Paul’s resilience: “Jake Paul has done really well tonight. I want to give him his props, he got up, time and time again. I just took my time and I got the job done.”

This contest, which generated significant attention due to Joshua’s provocative pre-fight rhetoric, saw Joshua weigh in at 243.4 pounds compared to Paul’s 216.6 pounds, creating a substantial advantage for the Briton. Both fighters competed with regulation 10oz gloves over the eight three-minute rounds, marking a significant challenge for Paul in his boxing career.

The aftermath reaffirms the unpredictable nature of boxing, where contenders navigate the delicate balance between skill, stamina, and strategy. For Paul, this defeat could signal a pivotal moment, inviting a deeper reflection on his path in the sport as he contemplates his next moves amidst the backdrop of fierce competition.
