ITV presenter Oli Bell apologises after awkward moment attempting to kiss female racegoer

Live kiss blunder at Aintree as ITV Racing presenter misreads situation

ITV Racing’s Oli Bell found himself in an embarrassing situation during Thursday’s live coverage from Aintree when he attempted to plant a kiss on a female racegoer – only to be firmly turned down, reports BritPanorama.

The presenter, who is also a keen poker player, was enjoying Ladies Day at the Grand National Festival when the cringe-worthy moment unfolded. After leaning in towards a woman named Karen, Bell quickly realized his error and pulled back.

“I went in for a kiss there! Very presumptuous of me, Karen, I’m so sorry,” he said, visibly embarrassed by the exchange.

Bell had been working alongside fellow presenter Samantha Quek, who had been engaging with elegantly dressed women enjoying drinks in the sunshine. One racegoer had recounted how she’d secured her ticket back in January to ensure she didn’t miss out on the day’s excitement.

Quek then turned her attention to Bell, noticing his awkwardness. “Talking about being left out, Oli, you’re looking a little bit lonely,” she teased. Taking the hint, Bell moved closer to Karen but misread the situation entirely.

Karen’s response to the kiss attempt was blunt: “We’ve only just met! You need to buy me a drink!” Without missing a beat, Bell offered her a glass of champagne, joking, “Here you go, have that. Actually, you’re double-parked now, Karen.”

This year’s festival has delivered several memorable moments already. On day one, trainer Joe O’Shea amused viewers after his horse Barton Snow won the Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Steeplechase at odds of 7/4. When asked about his plans for the victorious horse, an emotional O’Shea declared, “I don’t know. I’m going to sleep with him. I’m just going to marry him. He’s brilliant.”

In the midst of the racing spectacle, moments like these remind us of the unpredictable blend of humour and competition that characterizes events like the Grand National.
