Harry Kane set to extend contract with Bayern Munich

Harry Kane is ready to commit his future to Bayern Munich despite previously being linked with a blockbuster move to Barcelona, reports BritPanorama.

The England captain is entering the final year of his current contract with the Bundesliga champions but appears increasingly likely to extend his stay in Germany rather than pursue another move.

Kane is expected to hold talks with Bayern this week over a new agreement which would keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029, according to The Times. The 33-year-old and his family are believed to be settled in Bavaria following his £86 million move from Tottenham in 2023, while Kane remains one of Bayern’s highest earners on a base salary of around £21.5 million per year.

His apparent decision represents a significant boost for the German giants following speculation that Barcelona could attempt to lure him away. The Catalan club had been tipped to pursue Kane as a potential attacking reinforcement after Robert Lewandowski’s departure for MLS side Chicago Fire. However, no serious recent approach is believed to have materialised and Kane now appears increasingly likely to extend his hugely successful spell with Bayern.

The striker has been prolific since swapping north London for Munich three years ago, scoring an astonishing 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions last season, taking his overall Bayern tally to 146. This remarkable output has further enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s most devastating goalscorers after he previously struck 213 times in the Premier League for Tottenham.

Crucially, Kane has also ended his long wait for major team silverware in Germany. The England skipper helped Bayern win consecutive Bundesliga titles in 2024-25 and 2025-26, having previously endured years of near misses with both Tottenham and his country. European glory, however, remains a major target.

Bayern suffered Champions League heartbreak last season after losing a dramatic semi-final 6-5 on aggregate against eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain. The German giants have not lifted Europe’s biggest club prize since 2020, when Kingsley Coman scored the winner against PSG in the final. Kane will hope another crack at the Champions League awaits after his summer break.

The striker did not join Bayern’s pre-season tour of South Korea and Hong Kong after being given additional time to recover from England’s gruelling World Cup campaign. Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions reached the semi-finals before suffering a devastating 2-1 defeat following Lautaro Martinez’s stoppage-time winner. England responded by beating France in a remarkable 10-goal third-place play-off before Kane finally headed off for a well-earned rest.

Bayern have continued their preparations without him and recorded a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Friday. Kane could also soon add the biggest individual honour in football to his collection. The Bayern talisman is among the leading contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or following his extraordinary goalscoring exploits. With the ceremony being staged in London for the first time this October, Kane could make a triumphant return to the city where his remarkable career began.

As the season approaches, the prospect of Kane extending his stay in Munich highlights not just his personal evolution but the shifting dynamics within European football. In a landscape where loyalty often falters, this commitment speaks volumes about Kane’s ambitions against the backdrop of Bayern’s own aspirations.
