Frank Warren confirms rematch clause for Wardley

Frank Warren has confirmed that a rematch clause exists for Fabio Wardley following his defeat to Daniel Dubois, though the promoter made clear that any second meeting between the heavyweight rivals remains a distant prospect, reports BritPanorama.

Warren, representing both fighters, emphasised the necessity of allowing an adequate recovery period after their intense encounter. He indicated that neither boxer should expect to return to the ring soon, deeming an extended hiatus essential.

Speaking to talkSport after the bout, Warren stated: “There is a rematch clause, but I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon. They’re going to have to be out of the ring for a little while yet. Probably six months at least.”

This fight turned out to be an exhilarating contest, with Dubois knocked down in the initial moments and again in the third round, as Wardley seemed poised for an early finish. However, Dubois countered effectively, delivering damaging punches that caused severe swelling around Wardley’s right eye and nose.

The bout concluded in the eleventh round when a powerful right hand from Dubois prompted referee Howard Foster to call a halt to the match for Wardley’s safety. Medical staff monitored the situation closely as Dubois gained momentum throughout the fight.

In his post-fight remarks, Dubois reflected on the match, saying: “It was a war, we went through the sticky moments. Thank you Fabio for that, thank you. I know I’ve got heart, bundles of heart. I’m a warrior in there.” He acknowledged Wardley’s resilience and the challenge the fight presented.

Dubois further praised his opponent, saying, “Thank Fabio for a great fight. I thank his team but we move on now. I thank God, all glory to god for this victory.” His respect for Wardley was evident as he described him as “a durable guy, durable warrior, great warrior.”

This contest has already been lauded as one of the best in British boxing history, signifying not just a physical battle but a testament to the spirit of competition, reminding fans of the unpredictable nature of heavyweight boxing.

As the heavyweight landscape continues to evolve, this latest clash offers a glimpse into the grit and determination that defines the sport. It’s a sharp reminder that in boxing, every fight is not just a contest of skill, but a fight for honour and legacy, leaving an indelible mark on both fighters and their followers.
