Essex cricketer charged with two counts of rape
Essex cricketer Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape and is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9 after being charged on July 23, reports BritPanorama.
Das was arrested in August 2025 following allegations of raping a woman in Brixton, south London, in March 2024. The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges stem from this case. The investigation conducted by the police has drawn significant media attention.
Having made 60 appearances for Essex since his debut in 2020, Das’s most recent match was in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup against Middlesex just two days prior to his charge. His involvement in first-class, List A, and T20 matches has made him a known figure in the county circuit.
Following the charges, Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that Das has been suspended from the team. A club spokesperson noted, “Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that a male member of the playing staff, currently under contract with the club, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident that took place outside club activities.”
The club has stated that it is engaged with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers’ Association in light of the incident.
