Jack Grealish ruled out of Everton’s match against Burnley
Jack Grealish will not play in Everton’s final match of 2025 against Burnley due to illness, as he has been affected by a virus during the festive period, reports BritPanorama.
Manager David Moyes confirmed that the on-loan Manchester City winger is unavailable for the fixture, stating, “He’s just got a bit of a virus and not been well over Christmas time, so he’s not available today.” Grealish’s absence will be felt by the team, as he has contributed two goals and four assists in 18 appearances since joining Everton.
This news comes in the wake of reports detailing a lavish £20,000 Christmas party that Grealish hosted for friends, which reportedly included shots priced at £14 each and dance performances at the venue. A source described the event as “a seasonal tear-up like no other.” It took place following Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last week, raising questions about the timing of the celebration.
Despite the festivity occurring well in advance of the match, the implications of his absence are significant for the Toffees. Additionally, Everton’s attacking options are further constrained as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is sidelined with a hamstring injury and Iliman Ndiaye is representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Tyler Dibling has been granted a rare starting opportunity in Grealish’s place. Moyes faces a considerable challenge in navigating the squad’s limitations as they aim to end the year on a high note, managing the rigorous demands of the holiday fixture schedule.
Emphasising resilience, Moyes remarked, “You just go about it the way we’ve done at this time of the year over many years I’ve been in the job. It’s always been the case – we’ve always had busy Christmas and New Year periods. It’s what we do in this country, isn’t it? We have to find ways of managing it.”
With seven wins from their first 17 league matches, the pressure is on for Everton to make a statement as they prepare to face Burnley.
As the festive cheer contrasts sharply with the demands of top-flight football, the narrative of individual choices and team responsibilities plays out distinctly this season. Grealish’s absence not only highlights his importance on the pitch but also serves as a stark reminder of how personal decisions can ripple into the professional realm.
