Dame Denise Lewis confirms end of marriage

Dame Denise Lewis has confirmed the end of her marriage to music executive Steve Finan O’Connor, bringing to light a private separation that had remained unknown to the public for two years, reports BritPanorama.

The Olympic gold medallist shared the news in a statement released on Instagram on Tuesday, explaining that the couple had chosen to go their separate ways after what she described as a considered and respectful decision.

Lewis wrote: “After much thought and consideration, Steve and I decided to separate two years ago as a couple. This decision was made with mutual respect and care for one another after many meaningful years together.”

She continued, expressing gratitude for their shared time and the children they raised together, stating, “We remain grateful for the time we shared and the wonderful children created.” Lewis emphasised their commitment to maintaining a positive co-parenting relationship for the wellbeing of their family.

Speculation surrounding the couple’s relationship had circulated quietly last year, when it was reported that Steve had moved out of the family home in Buckinghamshire. A source suggested that despite attempts to remain together, they had ultimately decided that separation was the most sensible option.

The former couple, who married in 2006, have three sons together: Ryan, Kane, and Troy. Both also have children from previous relationships; Lewis has a daughter, Lauren, while O’Connor has a son, Joe. They initially met at the Brit Awards in 2000 but did not begin their relationship until years later.

O’Connor is known in the entertainment industry for his management of various musical acts and has also pursued property development. Meanwhile, Lewis transitioned from sporting success to becoming a prominent sports broadcaster following her Olympic victory in 2000, marking a significant turn in her professional journey.

This separation spotlights the often-unseen complexities within public figures’ personal lives, reminding us that even in the midst of high-profile careers, the challenges of maintaining family relationships can be daunting.
