Conor McGregor lends support to Jake Paul after boxing defeat

Conor McGregor has offered words of encouragement to Jake Paul following the American’s knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua on Friday evening, reports BritPanorama.

The former UFC champion responded to Paul’s hospital update on social media with a succinct message of support: “Fair play! Well done,” he wrote beneath Paul’s post from his recovery bed.

Paul suffered a broken jaw during his sixth-round stoppage loss to Joshua at Miami’s Kaseya Center. The fight saw Joshua dominate, culminating in a devastating right hand that sent Paul crashing to the canvas. The referee waved off the contest immediately, granting Joshua a comprehensive victory in front of an engaged Miami crowd.

Following the bout, Paul confirmed that his surgery had been completed without complications at Miami University hospital. He expressed gratitude for the medical staff, describing them as “gracious and caring” throughout his stay, while posting on Instagram, “Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love.” Paul also noted that his recovery would require significant dietary adjustments, stating he must consume only liquids for the coming week.

Despite the setback, Paul remains characteristically defiant. “I think my jaw is broken. But that was good, I’ll come back and get a world championship belt at some point,” he declared, outlining his intention to compete at cruiserweight level in the future. After six demanding years of competition, the 27-year-old indicated he would temporarily step away from the sport, stating, “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years.”

Joshua’s victory strengthens his position in the boxing landscape, as he quickly pivoted to challenging fellow Briton Tyson Fury. “If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight one of the realest fighters out there, step into the ring with me next,” Joshua proclaimed. Fury, however, has announced his retirement after his recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

This latest chapter in the careers of both fighters underscores the unpredictability and relentless nature of professional boxing, reminding fans and competitors alike of the fine margins that lie between victory and defeat.
