Christian Horner Spotted at Watford Match After Leaving Red Bull

Christian Horner made one of his first significant public appearances since leaving Red Bull in July, joining wife Geri at Watford’s Championship fixture against Coventry on Saturday afternoon, reports BritPanorama.

The former Formula One team principal, who received an £80 million settlement from the Austrian racing outfit, was all smiles alongside his Spice Girl wife at the match. The couple waved to fans who recognised them before kick-off, with Geri showing her support for her beloved Watford.

Unfortunately for the celebrity couple, their presence did not bring much luck to Watford. Frank Lampard’s table-topping Coventry City dominated the match, racing into a two-goal lead within just seven minutes. Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jamie Allen, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto all got on the scoresheet as the Sky Blues stormed to a 3-0 advantage by half-time. Things worsened for the Hornets when James Abankwah received a red card before the break, further complicating their already challenging situation.

This match marked a stark contrast for Horner, who, just over three months ago, was immersed in the fast-paced world of Formula One, having spent two decades travelling to Grand Prix weekends. While he enjoyed his Saturday at the football, his former team was preparing for the crucial Mexican Grand Prix.

Horner’s departure from Red Bull comes after a successful period at the helm, during which the team won four consecutive world titles with driver Max Verstappen. As he navigates this new chapter, the Formula One landscape continues to evolve. The current championship battle has intensified, with Verstappen recently closing the gap on McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Interest in Horner’s reinstatement into Formula One is considerable, with several teams reportedly keen on securing his expertise. However, after strategically accepting an £80 million settlement — rather than a larger sum that would have barred him from the sport for years — he remains open to returning to the paddock potentially as early as spring 2026. With potential negotiations on the horizon, the next steps in his career will undoubtedly attract attention.

Watching football on a Saturday, rather than trackside for a pivotal race weekend, highlights the turning tides for Horner. In a sport where every decision can tilt the balance of power, even a seasoned figure such as Horner is reminded of the fickle nature of professional sports.
