Carlos Alcaraz discusses post-match incident following Paris Masters defeat
Carlos Alcaraz was seen arguing with his coach during his Paris Masters defeat to Cameron Norrie on Tuesday night – and the world No 1 has now opened up on the incident following his shock loss in the French capital, reports BritPanorama.
The 22-year-old had entered the match as the favourite, bolstered by an impressive season in 2025. Despite an initial win in the first set, Alcaraz was unexpectedly eliminated with Norrie clinching the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to secure his place in the round of 16.
This victory marked a notable achievement for Norrie, who has now triumphed in three of his eight encounters against Alcaraz. Post-match, the Briton expressed his jubilation, stating, “This is massive, so big for me.” He reflected on his recovery from injury and the importance of enjoying his tennis during the latter part of the year.
For Alcaraz, however, the match was disheartening. In a visible display of frustration, he exchanged heated words with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero during the game. Addressing the discussion afterwards, Alcaraz explained that their disagreement stemmed from different strategies. “I showed a wrong game strategy for this type of slow court,” he said, adding that he felt the match was among his worst of the season and revealing, “I didn’t feel the ball well at any moment.”
Looking back at his performance, which included victories at the French Open and US Open, Alcaraz acknowledged, “I trained a lot here. I felt very good. I felt really great. I was moving well on the court. My ideas were very clear, as were my goals. But today, even in the first set, although I won it, I felt like I could do much better than I had.” He plans to return home to rest as the season draws to a close.
Alcaraz’s unexpected defeat raises questions about his future performance as he prepares for upcoming competitions, underscoring the unpredictable nature of sport where even the most consistent players can falter at perplexing moments. Amidst the fervour of competition, these outcomes serve as stark reminders of the constant evolution inherent in the professional landscape.
