Bryson DeChambeau has pulled out of the final round at LIV Golf Mexico City after experiencing wrist problems during Saturday’s play, reports BritPanorama.

The 32-year-old American was 16 strokes behind leader Jon Rahm when he decided to withdraw, having recorded rounds of 71, 71, and 73, placing him at two over par.

In a statement on social media, DeChambeau said, “I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday’s round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury. Not how I wanted this week to go, but wishing the Crushers a strong finish.”

DeChambeau’s withdrawal continues a challenging period for the two-time US Open champion. His recent struggles included a triple-bogey on the 18th hole at the Masters, which eliminated him from contention after a difficult finish to his second round.

Earlier in the tournament, he expressed dissatisfaction with the playing conditions at Chapultepec, highlighting issues with the damaged grass and making sarcastic remarks about the rough. His wrist troubles date back to a previous surgery four years ago, when he repaired a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist.

He plans to take several days to assess his wrist injury, aiming to compete at LIV Golf Virginia from May 7-10 at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. The timing is crucial as it falls just one week before the PGA Championship at Aronimink in Pennsylvania.

Mexican golfer Luis Carrera will step into the lineup to replace DeChambeau for Sunday’s team competition, marking his first appearance on the LIV circuit. The withdrawal from LIV Golf Mexico City is a significant moment, particularly given DeChambeau’s strong performances earlier this season, where he secured back-to-back playoff victories at LIV Golf Singapore and LIV Golf South Africa in March, bringing his career total on the Saudi-backed tour to five titles.

As he navigates this period, the question remains whether the former superstar can regain his footing and overcome the setbacks that have plagued his recent outings.
