Trump moves to overturn Biden’s executive orders, citing autopen use
Donald Trump announced that he is reversing all documents and executive orders signed by Joe Biden using an autopen, alleging that this practice undermines the legitimacy of those decisions, reports BritPanorama.
Trump has claimed that he will charge Biden with perjury for using the autopen, asserting that staffers misused the device to sign documents on the former president’s behalf. His statement comes shortly after Republican lawmakers expressed doubts about Biden’s use of the autopen, branding many of his signed actions as “void.”
On Truth Social, Trump stated, “Any document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with the Autopen, which was approximately 92% of them, is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect.” He emphasized the necessity of direct presidential approval for autopen use, declaring, “The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States.”
According to Trump, all Biden-era executive orders are now invalid unless they were personally signed by the former president. “Because the people who operated the Autopen did so illegally. Joe Biden was not involved in the Autopen process and, if he says he was, he will be brought up on charges of perjury,” Trump added.
The controversy surrounding Biden’s presidency has intensified amid allegations that his autopen signature appeared on nearly all official documents during his time in office. This situation has raised questions about whether Biden’s reliance on the autopen was merely a matter of convenience or indicative of a presidency influenced more by aides than the leader himself.
In a recent report, the GOP-controlled House Oversight Committee critiqued Biden’s presidency, revealing findings from interviews with aides indicating that he might not have always been aware of what was being signed in his name, allegedly due to cognitive decline. The report also claimed there was a “cover-up of the president’s cognitive decline” and noted that there was no evidence demonstrating Biden made all the executive decisions attributed to him.
Biden has publicly contested these claims, asserting that he personally made all decisions as president and labeling the allegations as false and misleading. He has described the accusations from Republicans as untruthful, calling them “liars.”

What is an autopen?
An autopen is a mechanical device that replicates a person’s signature with extreme precision.
Often employed by high-ranking officials, including U.S. presidents, it allows for the signing of documents without requiring hand signatures each time.
The device operates by tracing a pre-programmed signature template, ensuring consistency across multiple documents.
While autopens have been utilized since at least the 19th century, modern versions are electronically controlled, producing identical signatures.
In political contexts, their usage is controversial, particularly for important documents like executive orders, pardons, and legislation.
Some argue that autopens are essential efficiency tools, while others raise concerns about authenticity, legal validity, and the signer’s awareness of the content being approved.
The ongoing debate regarding the use of autopens highlights broader issues of transparency and accountability in governance. As claims of cognitive decline and questions of legitimacy persist, the implications for political discourse and trust remain significant.
