Pentagon to extend US troop deployment in Middle East amid ongoing conflict with Iran

The Pentagon plans to extend the deployment of US troops in the Middle East into next year, indicating that the conflict with Iran is likely to continue, reports BritPanorama.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is quietly prolonging the troop presence as part of a strategy to leave President Donald Trump with multiple options in the ongoing war, according to sources cited in a report by The Wall Street Journal.

This adjustment follows Trump’s ambiguous remarks regarding long-term US commitments in the region, where he stated on Wednesday that the US is ready to launch another military strike “at any time.”

“It was a very heavy attack last night, and we’re prepared to do another one any time we want,” he told reporters after a significant exchange of fire. He suggested that any renewed offensive would not last “too long.”

Concerns within Iran and surrounding regions have intensified following the most substantial exchange of gunfire between Tehran and Washington since July.

In addition, multiple US embassies in the Middle East issued security alerts to American citizens, advising them to brace for potential travel disruptions. The warnings came after Trump threatened to retaliate against Iran in a more aggressive manner should it strike again, following retaliatory attacks launched by Iran overnight.

Meanwhile, an investigative report revealed that Russia has been secretly assisting Iran in developing supersonic cruise missiles, employing its experienced specialists even amid the ongoing conflict. This cooperation underscores the complexities in the region, as the US navigates its military strategy and diplomatic ties.

As the situation continues to evolve with military and geopolitical ramifications, the extent of foreign involvement will be crucial in shaping the trajectory of this enduring conflict.
