Meghan Markle returns to acting with cameo in new rom-com

Meghan Markle is making a return to acting, appearing in a new rom-com titled Close Personal Friends, reports BritPanorama. This marks her first acting role since departing from the popular series Suits eight years ago, a move that comes as her previous ventures in lifestyle television faced challenges.

Markle, known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, will play herself in this film, which involves two couples, one famous and another less so, whose lives intersect unexpectedly. Her previous work was noted for her strong screen presence, which may support her performance alongside co-stars like Lily Collins and Brie Larson.

While Markle is not considered a top-tier actress, her ability to enhance lighthearted content has been acknowledged. The film may offer her a chance to also address public perceptions of her through a humorous lens, reflecting on the various stereotypes that have emerged since her marriage to Prince Harry.

Markle’s withdrawal from acting came as she transitioned into life as a royal, but ongoing tensions within her familial context have prompted a reevaluation of her career. Her aspirations as a lifestyle influencer did not reach the anticipated success, particularly with her initial brand name, American Riviera Orchard, which failed to resonate with audiences.

Her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which aimed to showcase her as a relatable figure, struggled with low viewership and critical reviews during its second season. As her Netflix deal approaches its end, she seems poised to explore opportunities that align more closely with her initial acting career.

While Suits drew significant viewership and remains popular in streaming, Markle’s return to acting could offer her a platform to move past the controversies surrounding her and redefine her persona in the public eye. A cameo appearance, though not transformative, might allow her to reclaim a narrative that has been largely defined by the tumultuous events of recent years.
