Channel 4 has launched a new drama series titled Summerwater, which began airing on 16 November 2025. This six-part adaptation is based on the best-selling novel by Sarah Moss, bringing to life a narrative filled with suspense and human complexity, reports BritPanorama.

The story unfolds over a single day at a lock-side holiday park, where families confront the aftermath of a catastrophic event. This gripping Scottish thriller examines the escalation of tensions among the holidaymakers, leading to a devastating climax.

Officially described as “an unflinching yet empathetic look at human nature across generations,” Summerwater promises to offer viewers a unique perspective on modern Britain, highlighting themes of division and connection within communities.

Each episode takes place within the same 24-hour timeframe, though the series is hinted to feature a non-linear storytelling approach, adding depth to the narrative.

Who is in the cast of Summerwater?

Leading the cast is Dougray Scott, known for his roles in The Crow Girl and Vigil. He portrays David Campbell, a long-time visitor of the holiday park returning with his wife, Annie, played by Shirley Henderson, who is famed for her appearance as “Moaning Myrtle” in the Harry Potter films.

Joining them are Valene Kane, who plays Justine Tindall, and other notable actors such as Jamie Sives, Daniel Rigby, and Shauna MacDonald.

Where is Summerwater filmed?

Filming for Summerwater took place in locations around Glasgow, particularly near Benview Garden Centre and the picturesque village of Aberfoyle. Additional scenes were filmed in Bridgeton and at David Dale Studio in east Glasgow.

How many episodes are there and when is it on?

The series comprises six episodes, with the first airing at 9pm on 16 November. The subsequent episodes are scheduled for release on 17, 18, and 23 to 25 November. All episodes are available for streaming on the Channel 4 website, providing viewers immediate access to the complete series.
