Enzo Maresca confirms Gianluigi Donnarumma will remain Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper

Donnarumma retains starting role for Manchester City

Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will remain their first-choice keeper, following his manager’s confidence in his abilities during recent performances, reports BritPanorama.

Manager Enzo Maresca highlighted the differing tactics employed in recent matches, emphasizing the effectiveness of Donnarumma’s play: “In the first half, we tried some long solutions with Floyd [Samba] and then in the second half we tried on the floor with Phil [Foden]. He made one good save and was good. He is working well but Rulli knows exactly his role, there is no doubt about that. Saturday it will be Gigio plus 10.”

Emiliano Rulli joined Manchester City during the summer transfer window after James Trafford moved to Leeds United. Despite having been unable to oust Donnarumma from the starting position under Pep Guardiola, Rulli provides a strong backup option for the team.

Donnarumma’s status has further solidified as one of the club’s four captains, although recent errors in matches have attracted scrutiny and heightened interest in Rulli’s potential opportunities for play.

As City continues its campaign, the focus will remain on how Donnarumma can adapt to pressures, especially amidst competition for his role. With such dynamics at play, the tension between reliability and opportunity becomes ever palpable in the high-stakes world of Premier League football.
