North Korea launches ballistic missiles into the sea
SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea fired around 10 short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast on Thursday, reports BritPanorama.
The missiles were launched around 12:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. Wednesday ET) from an area around Wonsan on North Korea’s eastern coast, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea reported.
In response, South Korea’s military is enhancing surveillance and maintaining readiness for any further launches, while closely communicating with both the United States and Japan.
Japan’s Defense Ministry indicated that North Korea had launched what could be a ballistic missile, which fell outside Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone, according to reports from the Yonhap news agency. Additionally, Japan’s coast guard noted that the launched projectile had already descended into the sea.
North Korea last fired ballistic missiles on October 12, amid rising tensions on the inter-Korean border due to a mine blast that injured South Korean soldiers last month. This incident was part of more than 10 missile tests conducted by Pyongyang this year.
As the situation continues to evolve, the implications for regional security persist, amid mounting scrutiny of North Korea’s military activities.
