Trump claims voter fraud amid Alaska Senate race
Donald Trump has accused Democrats of “voter fraud at the highest level” as Americans head to the polls, reports BritPanorama.
A report from the New York Times regarding the Midterm elections suggests that the Democrats sought a same-name candidate in the crucial Alaska Senate race, where Republican Senator Dan Sullivan is seeking re-election.
Trump demanded that Alaska change its ballot after claims surfaced that Democrats recruited a candidate with the same name as Senator Sullivan. “It was just determined that the Dumocrats in Alaska, despite their sworn statements to the contrary, put a man named Dan Sullivan on the ballot in order to confuse the public with respect to highly esteemed Senator Dan Sullivan,” he wrote on TruthSocial.
“This is voter fraud at the highest level, and the Dumocrat candidate who was involved in the scheme, Mary Peltola, should be removed from the ballot and prosecuted,” he stated, further calling for action against the “fake” Dan Sullivan. This was one of four posts Trump made regarding the alleged electoral scheme.
Reports indicate that two candidates named Dan Sullivan are competing for the Senate seat, with Democrat Mary Peltola polling strong. Allegations suggest that Democratic staff endeavoured to stack the ballot in their favour through name confusion.
According to the New York Times, staff members from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Peltola’s campaign spent months searching for a candidate with a matching name. They reportedly identified Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. to enter the race.
Sullivan, the incumbent senator, has asserted that he entered the race independently, while both the Peltola campaign and D.S.C.C. denied involvement in recruiting candidates. However, the report claims that a staffer from Peltola’s campaign was instructed to locate every individual named Dan Sullivan in Alaska.
Further allegations detail that other potential candidates with different names were approached to dilute support away from Sullivan, involving covert operations in remote communities and engagement with a Midwest operative recruiting in local pubs.
Trump has announced plans for a lawsuit aimed at preventing Alaska from certifying its election results if Republicans face defeat. He reiterated his claims of Democratic deceit, stating, “They found a man named Dan Sullivan, put him on the ballot, then lied to the court, and said they didn’t know anything about it. That’s perjury.”
Echoing Trump’s sentiments, JD Vance criticized Peltola, calling her a “total crook” who attempted to “rig” the Senate race in her favour. The race for Alaska’s Senate seat is now among the most scrutinised contests in this electoral cycle.
This ongoing saga underscores the tensions and controversies that often characterize U.S. elections, particularly in pivotal battlegrounds like Alaska.
