Fifa president faces two-week deadline for transparency amid World Cup sell-off controversy

Uefa demands immediate transparency from Fifa

Uefa has called for immediate transparency from Fifa, insisting that “these questions require answers now.” The governing body of European football emphasized that responses cannot be postponed until the next Fifa Council meeting, nor can future governance reforms replace the need for accountability regarding past decisions, reports BritPanorama.

This urgency is linked to the timeline surrounding Fifa’s presidential election. The deadline for responses is set for November 2, just sixteen days before the November 18 deadline for submitting nominations for the presidential ballot, which is scheduled for March 18, 2026.

This timeframe allows national football associations to review Fifa’s answers, or lack thereof, as they consider whether to support an alternative candidate against incumbent president Gianni Infantino, who has been in office since 2016 and is aiming for a third term.

The next Fifa Council meeting will take place on December 16 in Doha, after the nomination window has closed. Uefa has therefore deemed it unacceptable to wait for this later date to address the pressing concerns.
