Liverpool star Alexander Isak has returned from international duty early after sustaining a minor injury, reports BritPanorama.
The 27-year-old striker will undergo assessment by Liverpool staff following a “small problem with his thigh.” This issue will prevent him from participating in Sweden’s next three matches.
Isak featured in Sweden’s 2-1 victory over Romania, playing the entire match. Sweden’s coach, Graham Potter, confirmed Isak’s premature return to Liverpool when addressing the media, stating, “He’s got a small problem with his thigh. It’s not a big one, but because of the amount of games we’ve got in a small space of time, he won’t be able to make those.”
He added, “Not a big one, but frustrating for him, and obviously for us.” Isak has made a promising start to the season for Liverpool, having scored four goals in five Premier League appearances.
He notably netted two goals against Ipswich earlier this month, showcasing his ability in a standout performance. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola praised Isak following that game, saying, “He’s a massive player for us. My demands will probably not be about the goals; I know he is fit and in good shape. He’s going to produce the numbers.”
After a difficult previous season, during which Isak suffered a broken fibula that sidelined him for three and a half months following a £125 million transfer from Newcastle, he is keen to contribute significantly this year. He reflected on the challenges of last season, remarking, “It was not easy. It was obviously a long injury and a difficult season in general.”
