The England skipper commended his team’s performance, indicating they matched the quality of the world champions. “I spoke before that we reached good levels at the World Cup but didn’t quite put a full 90 minutes together. Probably similar again today,” Kane remarked to ITV.
Despite the disappointment, Kane noted that England displayed a high standard during periods of the match. “We had a couple of good moments though, that period was as good as we’ve played in a long, long time and that’s the standard we know we can reach,” he added.

You always feel like it’s you’re giving it away rather than them winning it.” He reiterated that he felt the team was competitive with Spain, suggesting that a penalty conversion could have altered the outcome.
