Four supporting acts have withdrawn from Ed Sheeran’s tour following rapper Macklemore’s removal over pro-Palestinian remarks made during a performance, reports BritPanorama.
The step was taken after Sheeran stated he would refrain from participating in a public debate regarding the ongoing Gaza conflict. Irish acts Aaron Rowe and Beoga, Danish band Lukas Graham, and singer Finneas announced on Instagram their decision to exit the tour just hours later.
Macklemore revealed that he had been dropped as the opener for Sheeran’s remaining US tour dates, claiming that Robert Kraft, the owner of the Gillette Stadium, had personally communicated that he would not be allowed to perform at the venue.
Rowe had been set to replace Macklemore during the remaining US dates, while Beoga was part of Sheeran’s touring band. Finneas, known for his work with Billie Eilish, was meant to join Sheeran in South America later this year.
Finneas expressed his stance on Instagram, stating, “Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed. I have decided to withdraw from my upcoming tour dates with Ed Sheeran. I stand with Palestine and its people.”
Aaron Rowe conveyed a similar sentiment, noting, “I don’t take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life; I could never thank him enough for this.
Beoga announced their departure from the tour, attributing it to “the silencing of Macklemore by Zionist lobbies.” They emphasized their longstanding friendship with Sheeran but stated that performing in venues that suppress advocacy for a free Palestine is “not an option for us.”
They also cited their familiarity with colonialism as Irish individuals and their involvement in the Irish Artists for Palestine movement, reaffirming their commitment to activism for justice.
Lukas Graham described their choice as difficult but necessary, asserting, “Money doesn’t give you the right to own the conversation. Nobody’s bank balance should decide who gets to speak or which suffering we’re allowed to acknowledge,” indirectly referencing Kraft’s influence on Macklemore’s removal.
Earlier, Sheeran addressed the situation, claiming the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the promoters, not him. “I would never let down the fans who had made plans nor would I abandon the touring crew and the other support acts and musicians who rely on me,” he explained.

Macklemore stated that he was removed from the tour after his outburst of “Free Palestine!” during a September 5 performance at MetLife Stadium, while performing his protest song “Hind’s Hall.”
He explained to the audience, “To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters, criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide, it in no way is criticism of you.” Macklemore noted that several venues had warned the promoter they would not permit him to appear as Sheeran’s opener, reportedly due to Kraft’s influence.
In a statement, Kraft justified the decision by referencing Macklemore’s recent comments, citing a broader history of what he described as antisemitic rhetoric that had been “deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community.”
Sheeran acknowledged that despite his efforts to mediate discussions with the venues, the final decision lay with the promoters.
