Millwall fan threatens West Ham’s Tomas Soucek ahead of London derby
A Millwall fan has threatened West Ham star Tomas Soucek ahead of the two sides’ London derby this weekend, reports BritPanorama.
The heated rivals meet on Saturday for the first time in 14 years, with the fixture scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm.
Czech international Soucek has not featured for the Hammers this season as he is nursing an ankle injury. He has been seen supporting Nuno Espirito Santo’s side from the touchline, but was violently threatened to stay away from The Den during an encounter with a Millwall supporter.
The fan was heard saying in a video clip: “Soucek, come here. If I see you at The Den next Saturday, I’m going to cut your f***ing face off.” Millwall and West Ham last faced each other in the League Cup in August 2009, when a 44-year-old fan was stabbed in the chest, leading to three pitch invasions. The Met Police deployed 200 riot officers and 20 mounted officers for that contest.
As of now, the police have not announced any specific measures for the upcoming match. West Ham currently sit top of the Championship, aiming to bounce back to the Premier League, boasting a strong goal difference following a recent 6-0 win against Wrexham.
Nuno has expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, remarking, “Very, very happy. A very good game, a positive day for us.” The match against Millwall promises to be a crucial test; Millwall finished third last season in the second division, losing in the play-off semi-finals.
