Ovie Ejaria explores new opportunities on LinkedIn
Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria has taken to LinkedIn in an unconventional bid to secure his next football move, reports BritPanorama.
The 28-year-old, who departed from Real Oviedo following the club’s relegation from La Liga at the end of the last season, posted on Tuesday inviting interested clubs to reach out.
“I’m currently a free agent and looking for the right opportunity,” he wrote. “If there’s an opportunity or you know of a club looking for a midfielder – (6, 8 & 10) or someone who can play as a left winger, please feel free to DM me.”
A London-born player, Ejaria included video footage of his performance against Atletico Madrid from the previous term. His career began at Arsenal’s academy before moving to Liverpool in 2014, where he quickly garnered attention from Jürgen Klopp. Ejaria made his senior debut in 2016, stepping off the bench during a 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Derby County just weeks shy of his 19th birthday.
Klopp acknowledged Ejaria’s potential during training with the first team, noting, “There’s no doubt about the attitude, there’s no doubt about quality – it’s only a question of are they already ready or not? If not, then they still have time. If yes, then let’s make the next step.”
Over four years at Anfield, Ejaria accumulated eight senior appearances and spent loan spells at Sunderland, Rangers, and Reading. His time at Rangers under Steven Gerrard during the 2018-19 season showcased his talent, highlighted by a memorable Europa League play-off goal against FC Ufa that helped secure a spot in the group stages.
However, his loan to Rangers was short-lived, ending in December 2018 when he opted to return to Liverpool, frustrating Gerrard, who expressed in the Glasgow Times, “Am I disappointed he’s gone? Yes. Do I think it’s the right decision? No, because I think he had an incredible opportunity here.”
Now back in London, Ejaria finds himself at a pivotal point in his career. After just eight La Liga appearances last season with Oviedo, who finished bottom of the division with only six wins, his time in Spain came to an abrupt end following their relegation.
His current status as a free agent allows him to sign with any club without the constraints of a transfer window. With a diverse playing experience across England, Scotland, and Spain, and eligibility to represent Nigeria internationally, Ejaria will undoubtedly be hoping this bold LinkedIn strategy will attract interest from potential clubs.
