Dollywood unveils plans to honor Dolly Parton following her passing

Dollywood has revealed its intentions to commemorate “dreamer-in-chief” Dolly Parton following her death at the age of 80, reports BritPanorama.

The influential figure in rural Sevier County, Parton played a vital role in transforming the theme park into the area’s leading employer and a prominent tourist destination.

During a press conference on Wednesday, park officials announced the introduction of a new character named the Dream Maker, inspired by Parton’s Imagination Library. Additionally, a chapel within the park will feature a new waterfall and stained glass windows that reflect her profound faith.

Visitors will have the opportunity to leave messages in her memory at designated kiosks. Further enhancements are planned for The Dolly Parton Experience, a multi-building space with exhibits dedicated to her life and career.

Sevierville, located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee, is also installing markers throughout the city to establish a self-guided walking tour of significant locations associated with the singer, actor, and philanthropist.

Dolly Parton’s family announced her passing in a heartfelt Instagram video on August 25. Representatives later confirmed that she died following a “brief battle with cancer.”

She was laid to rest at a private funeral in accordance with her wishes. Dolly had specified a desire for a “small, private service” for her immediate family, her team stated.

The service took place at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, where she was interred alongside her husband Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025 after 60 years of marriage.

“I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words,” Dolly’s niece, Lainey Parton, expressed in a tribute after the service. “From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”
